Cheers all! He is so far proving to be a proper lad. Eats,  sleeps and farts, that's it. I'm proud!

Now you’re a dad you’ll probably have to forego all the globetrotting climbing trips and instead focus your energy and time on developing a love for the local crags. Perhaps the cave?

It’s gonna be tricky reigning in all those climbing trips I go on... :-\

A climbing trip for me is what happens when I try and walk backwards whilst belaying.

SUCCESS FOR LABOUR IN BRADFORD!

Rowan Alexander was born in the wee small hours of this morning. By some mad coincidence, tstubbs' partner was our midwife for the first few hours until the shift change. She was fab.

Just to make this political (because why not?), Bradford has something like 12 beds on its labour ward (where the theatre and more medical stuff is). There are 7 beds in the birth suite which is where you go for dimmed lights, birth pools and chilled vibes (and if you look at the science: better, cheaper outcomes). Yesterday, as is regularly the case now, the birth suite was shut. Not because of some horrible plumbing disaster, but because there simply aren't the people to staff it safely. As it happens, since we would have been on the labour ward anyway (previous C section), and our birth plan was "have the baby", this was no big deal to us, but to a first time mum, possibly a vulnerable person, this is a crap state of affairs.

Daisy has a fear (though I think of it as more of a phobia) of being sick and so doesn't want anything to do with gas and air or codeine. She had planned to have an epidural (drastic, I know, but based on a very protracted and unpleasant first labour), but as it happened there were not sufficient anesthetists to administer one. So she soldiered on without any pain relief other than paracetamol (just staking my position in the usual "my wife's harder than your wife" contest).

This was not actually the warzone that I thought it would be, but imagine had things not gone to plan, or she'd really really needed that epidural. The tories are twats and so are their cuts. Real effects on real people's lives.

Excellent stuff!

More “Centrist dads” in training.

Does this mean, you’ll be even more contrarian than usual? If so, we may need a new physics.
You already disagree with everything I say and I’m not sure the standard model allows for something greater than everything...

Seriously, may you both find enough rest, somehow, at some point, each day from now until “sleeps through”.
