Kalymnos
April 06, 2017, 01:04:42 pm
I've always avoided Kalymnos as a destination for fear that it may be a bit busy for my liking. However, I've recently booked flights so I guess we'll see.

I was hoping the good people of UKB may be able to recommend routes / crags that are may offer respite from any crowds (ones worth going to/trying!).

Also, any beta regarding scooter rental :o is also welcome (as is any rest day activity beyond indulging in Mythos and food).

What time of year will you be there? It makes a huge difference as to whether you'll see any crowds. I've been twice now in November and the only route with anything more than one person on was Daniboy.

I'll be there at the end of the month, just before the easiest flight paths are open. I'm hoping that the travel being a bit trickier might make things quieter?

It's very quiet here at the moment but I expect that to change this weekend. The hard part is getting somewhere shaded, you need to be getting up early. I'll loan you the guide if you haven't already got it, it's 40 euros otherwise.

I can't believe we're 5 posts into a thread that mentioned Paul B riding a scooter and no-one's mentioned broken bones yet.

Complex travel plans, unsure of the areas and as you point out Cheque a risky mode of transport. What's to go wrong?? ;)

As far as I know, some of the most sought-after 7's and 8's are in Sikati cave. It's steep so it could be shaded, and the walk in means it's never too overrun.

I'm also pondering rope length; I've got a 70 ish rope and was thinking about buying an 80m (although 100m is only £10 more).

Paul's injury potential on anything that moves is surely a given?
