It's take you a lot longer using media player with it crashing all the time, and sending all your info to MS.  ;)

Yeah, go for winamp and powerDvd.

I managed to get it hooked up to the net on a dial-up but now it runs so slow it won't even open up explorer properly, seems to have a load of .exe files mashing it up - something to do with 2 single men using it to browse the net???

Strip it down, install win2k and use firefox not explorer.  Oh, and clean that crusty mess off the keyboard....

it was my (now) ex-housemate honest!

incidentally, don't share a PC with another single man, especially one who doesn't know how to delete favorites / cookies or clean out temporary internet files.

hardley ever crashes on me, and never sends any info to MS without me allowing it to

I remember when I had a couple of mates living at my house for a while, I said "just use the computer, It's always on." The history was somewhat disturbing

since this thread has become a "my hard drive is bigger than yours" I just thought I'd ask how you are running many drives.  I have two 120Gb drives, which are both now full, so I obviously need more.  However, you can only have 2 drives per ribbon so I'm now facing the prospect of losing a disc drive or something in order to have another hard drive.  Is there a more reasonable way to add another couple of 200gb drives?  A second PC like Bubba has sounds like a good option and I guess it safeguards your collection even further from getting infected and fucked!

In reply to  unclesomebody: you could buy an ata controller card which would allow you to add more hard drives. Promise make good ones.

but would I then need to seriously think about a larger power supply for my computer?

Unless you have a really small PSU then no. My 350W is running:
cd writer
dvd reader
3 hard drives
