I'm probably heading out to Nashville with the family for 10 days as my wife has a conference. The general plan is to fly to Atlanta then drive to Nashville via Chattanooga.

So, has anyone climbed round here and have any advice, tips, best problems/areas etc. I'll probably only squeeze in one day/couple of half days and only if it's somewhere cool for my wife and daughter to hang out. I'm thinking Font, not New Mills Tors.

Also, any other must see things in the area would be greatly appreciated. It's all a bit last minute.....

I seem to have lost some text!

The plan currently seems to be Stone Fort as it's close to Chattanooga and looks pretty good. Horsepens 40 was on the list but is deemed too far off the route over to the west in Alabama.

Stone Forts is probably your best bet it's about twenty minutes drive from Chatt and there's plenty to do there.

You also have Rocktown near Lafayette in Georgia which is about 40 mins southeast of Chatt, but could be stopped off at on the way from Atlanta.

Rocktown is probably the nicer of the two areas to hang out at as it's in a big forest, Stone Fort in my opinion has the better climbing and is nice as well in some woods but you are just off of a golf course.

Both areas have a guide, but they are extortionately priced, especially for how long you are going to be there. You also have to pay to climb at both areas, i think it was about $5 at each.

There's plenty of really good little unguided areas about but you need to be about for a while to find out where they are, so i'd say stick to the big areas.

What sort of grade range are you looking for problems in? I'll dig out my guides and see if i can remember what problems are worth doing, but to be honest there are classics all through the grades so you can't really go wrong.

HP40 is about a 3 hour drive from Atlanta (its an easy drive though and its certainly a nice place to hang out once you're there. There are little cabins/a campground if you could get away for an overnight). I'd love to get back to the Southeast and am working on developing links with University of Georgia at Athens so I have a good excuse for trips!

If you're driving from Atlanta - Chattanooga - Nashville, then HP is a ways out of the way.  As Rich Mentioned, Rocktown in GA is quite good.  If you're going to be driving from Nashville to climb, then Lily boulders in Obed may be an option as well.  I've not been to the boulders, but the roped climbing is quite good, and the boulders are supposed to be excellent as well.

Another option in Alabama which is a closer drive from Chatty than HP40 would be the Hospital Boulders in Gadsden.  I don't know of a guide to this area, but it was recently purchased by climbers to open access.

Has little rock shitty closed? No ones mentioned it and it seems the most obvious one to go to?
