I sometimes wonder if I am alone in disliking the super hop++ pale ale tasting pale ales that seem to abound from said micro breweries?

Still - they're doing something to break the large breweries monopoly and revitalise in a different way pubs...

Top knots.....

I'm not a fan of the super hoppy beers either, also it's an easy was to disguise a poorly made beer, it's hard to brew a well balanced pale ale or bitter.  I do like some American stuff like Sierra Nevada but a lot of it lacks body which is usually put down to being forced conditioned in kegs rather than by yeast in casks.

There is still a big problem with the large brewery monopoly and pubcos but I think a lot has changed in the last 10 years well before hipsters got on the scene

These hoppy beers give me really bad heartburn and they're often served far too cold on draught.  Give me a cellar cooled good pint of bitter any day <old man emoticon>

If anyone's in Sheffield, you can be cool and drink nice beer this weekend at Picture House Social. They have a beer fest on:

(Had a few pints of their Mean Time Pale Ale last week, which was very nice)

I quite like them, there are some truly fantastic (fairly) new breweries out there which have brilliant PA's with an intense citrus or pine resin hoppy quality to them, heavy hopping is I expect from Pale's now though since that is the nature of the brew so it takes me by surprise when I find a maltier one nowdays.

Having said that, I do find myself somewhat disappointed when I walk in to pubs boasting 'numerous real ales' only to find that they have 3 very similar hoppy pales to only one bitter and one stout. I make a dive straight for the darker stuff usually so this is a bit of a bug bear of mine.

When I heard about it, the hip vibe and ping pong, I wasn't overly keen. If I want shoreditch i'll go to shoreditch. But having been there a few times I really like it - good food, ping pong and beer, what's not to like?

Is the ping pong in the style of certain bars in Thailand who feature such 'entertainment'?

 :???:

Andy P mentioned at some point how entrepreneurial hipsters could be. Is it borne of sheer arrogance that such a shit business idea could ever be viable?
