Tent pegs are ok but on steep/soft ground they will rip after a fall or two. I have a couple of these dog lead ground screw things (not the exact one in picture, the green ones from B&Q are best):

The tabs on your mat are more likely to rip out than these are. Worth bringing a strong stick or something to wind them in on rocky ground.
Have abbed off a single on before, which is neither big nor clever.
I also always bring a short thin rope for tethering to trees/roots/boulders and sometimes a runner or two.
