Having been ill for a few days I've been watching some John Pilger documentaries which have re-ignited my distrust of mainstream news.

What would you say are the best online news sources that don't just regurgitate the official government line?

Pilger is a conspiracy theorist loon, heavy on spite, rather lighter on fact and balance.

Yeah, I was wondering that when watching it. But even if you ignore his narrative, what a lot of the interviewees say is quite illuminating.

Why would a polemic documentary want to be balanced?  Would kind of defeat the point no?

I enjoy a good polemic or rant but the problem with Pilger is that he gives credibility to some pretty unpleasant people / ideas: I wonder if you'd find his presentations concerning if they were giving the racist far right the exposure and creibility that he gives to some rather oddball groups, see Eyes passim.

It is a shame because in his day Pilger was a very fine journalist.
