Camper Vans In the States
September 09, 2014, 02:30:59 pm
Hi,

Does anybody have any knowledge of renting camper vans in the States?

Looking to rent one for 2 months In the Utah/Nevada area. I have found some that sound pretty cheap, Lost campers, however they seem to want to charge you $20 a day for SLI and CDW, does anybody know anyways around this, i.e. Icarhireinsurance?

Thanks in advance

Dan

I've hired from lost campers before (big boy class) you can hire seperate insurance from a a bigger insurer for reduced cost. If you mention to them via email when you enquire that they were recomended by other british peeps they may be able to offer discount. Worked for us anyways.

As I recall we were able to wave the insurance add ons and just risked it, luckily the only thing we hit was a dog.

When are you heading down?  I'm looking at renting one from them in November for 2 weeks and bheading to Bishop.  Need to get it resolved.

There's also Juicy RV although like lost, they all seem ridiculously pricey (compared to cost of motel accommodation in the USA).

We hired one from Escape from SF for two weeks round Tahoe, Bishop, Yosemite and Big Sur. It wasn't cheap but worked out well. Seems standard to quote without insurance, but a bad idea to scrimp on it. Litigation capital of the world innit.

Cheers for the advice. It just seems crazy to pay just as much again for insurance.

I am heading there for November and December, probably be in Joe's most of November.

Yeah agreed, but I guess you going to be spending something similar just renting a car?At least you have accommodation sorted with a camper.

Ha True might just suck it up, I have had my fair share of Insurance issues, I really don't want to go there again.

The jucy RVs are ~$65 a day which was significantly more than renting a car. It's worth noting that something like a Dodge Grand Caravan is suitable for sleeping in as the rear seats all fold completely flat.

I think a lot of them do. The Ford Aerostar I had over there was the same.
