Pockets Necessary on a fingerboard?

Buying a hangboard soon but with limited space and funds wanted to get ukb opinion: can a simple campus edge train 2 & 3 finger combos sufficiently, or are pockets necessary?

A campus edge is the most basic best training item you could buy.
When uncle was at his strongest, whatever he says, he was simply training on a campus rung.

I'm not sure he'd deny this? He always said to me a rung was sufficient if you had the imagination / discipline.

Given that a pocket is an edge with sides on it and for training there is no benefit (I can think of) in dragging against the sides so I can't see why you can't use an edge for pocket training.

You just can't crimp a pocket (sometimes)...just use the edge open handed.

A pocket supports the flesh on your tip, as it follows the shape of your tip. Both sides in case of a mono, single in case of two finger pocket.. stating the obvious I realise. With a rung your flesh isn't supported and 'squishes' in technical terms out sideways. Quickly becomes painful and bruises quicker. Try hanging a rail as middle finger hangs, like you would a mono pocket, you'll soon be stopping no matter how 'ard your tips are.
