anyone got a Windows XP system restore disk i could borrow?
I've got a serial key but want to restore it so i can get rid.

Why not just re-partition the HD when installing whatever OS you are replacing XP with?

Fj what are you trying to do? Wipe the HD to install a new OS? Recover some stuff from a dead OS before wiping? Reinstall WinXP? Explain more please.

If there's no data to recover and you only want to remove XP just format and scan the drive when you install the next OS, or what slackline said.

Otherwise, I've got an XP Pro disc but it won't repair a Home version if that's what you have. It will let you install the recovery console, can be used to replace damaged files.

If you're just looking to recover data get hold of (or make) a bootable linux usb.
