Laying a cable
January 25, 2013, 09:53:53 am
Now then, now then.

Looking for help regarding lounge cable setup.

I currently have no TV. I do have An LCD monitor, Xbox with cable which splits VGA to monitor and LR audio to my stereo. (The LR Audio is fused into a 3.5mm jack in)

I have recently done TTT a favour by taking his old PS2 off his hands, and to get this to work on my monitor is proving to be a little bit of a slag. It has both male SCART or composite??(TV Aerial) cables. As with my Xbox,  I want to convert this to VGA and audio. I've googled the fuck out of it and it seems like I have to either suck it up and buy a converter at upwards of 60 notes, or chance it on a cable that may/ not do the job.

Am I missing summat?

Yes, SCART is an analogue signal and VGA is a digital signal. You'd probably have to suck it up I'm afraid. But you love doing that so no biggie.

I just Googled "laying a cable" and got some interesting result.  More interesting was that 57% of the pictures were of Stallioni!!   :o :o :o

The cable simply won't work.

Go on freecycle in your area, there are always old CRT style TVs getting given away which will have a SCART input. It'll then be much easier and cheaper to convert your Xbox to SCART rather than your PS2 to VGA.

not thought this through, but - if someone has an old standard def video camera which has the analogure-to-digital function (for converting old VHS to digital) and an output to TV lead, then they could give it to you and you could try to get it working that way

might be some sort of delay?

Don't think VGA is a digital signal. HDMI or DVI is.

Your right its analogue. I was trying to convert VGA to SCART for an XBMC (media centre) machine and from what I understood the only option was a converter. The other way may be different.

Obi, seen that cable already, ta. It lists Ps2 in the item header, but I don't see a plug on that cable for a PS2. Is it the same plug as the PS3? I think I shall buy it anyway.

Went into Maplins today and they had a cable for 69.99. But not recommended for monitors!
Gave it a swerve.

How much is a second hand PS3? are they backwards compatible?

Paul, the Xbox came with a Scart lead but I'd prefer not to get a telly for i)Space issues, 2)TV license issues, and 3)I would watch it all the time.

Think PS2 has same connector as PS3 but not an owner of either to confirm.

As far as I know it's not - though you can pick them up new for about 150 sheets nowadays so I assume a second hand one wouldn't be too bad.

On the TV thing, if it's only being used for gaming do you need a licence?
