Useful job hunting resources for Sheffield
September 07, 2012, 02:01:36 pm
I just wondered whether the very many of you Sheffield folk might be able to point me towards any useful Sheffield job hunting sources (online or otherwise)besides the obvious Job Centre online etc? I leave my present year long placement in Manchester and am moving to Sheffield early October. Obviously I need to get my shizzle together quicksharp and get something sorted so whether it be temping sites/papers or otherwise, I'd really appreciate any beta. Cheers.

What kind of job?
Council website for council and school jobs
https://www.sheffield.gov.uk/whats-new/job-vacancies.html

The two big uni's have quite a range of jobs at any one time...

The Star main jobs page is on a Thursday, think most of them are online as well

Initially any form of full time gainful employment would be a great start Obi. I have a place in London to finish my studies next September should I choose to take it up. In the meantime, I really just want to keep doing some architecture competitions on the side (another year in practice would be ideal, if perhaps slightly difficult to arrange), save money and get some serious climbing done.

They're a great start thank you very much.

No problem. If it's architects your looking at we work with BDP and HLM who have offices in Sheffield, but as I'm sure you know the industry is pretty quiet at the moment and this is reflected in the lack of jobs on their websites;

I can't help but I'm glad to hear you're coming to Sheffield. We must go for a pint. Good luck with the job hunting!

Word. I'm actually sat opposite an ex BDP architect right now. They dropped the axe big time. It's pretty grim which is why I think I'd prefer to concentrate on doing international competitions in conjunction with some young architect friends who share similar design interests. The main fear would be to lose heart and plug away doing things I don't want to be doing. I figure I can use this year very wisely to tick off a number of 'life admin' tasks and to continue developing my architectural skills and expanding upon my portfolio. Most importantly though I need to bag whatever full time work I can get.

Does Dense still run a rentboy agency worst comes to worst?  :'(

Amen Jasper! Incidentally I figure it has to make sense since the vast majority of friends and acquaintaces are over Sheff way (plus you have some amazing ale houses!).

Thanks mr_j5  :)

That wallpaper is mental in there - I wouldn't want to be on anything stronger than alcohol.  We quickly moved into the room with black walls to stop the flashbacks.

Am I to gather from this thread that the best Job finding resource is a pub with good beer and mental wallpaper? :icon_beerchug:

From my visit last night I think that they are supposed to be foxgloves but regardless they are truly hideous.

In days of yore such bright decorations would rapidly be blunted by the smoke...
