Nice that they put it somewhere the breakfast pint drinkers can see it.

Reported that yesterday passersby were getting their photographs taken next to it.

[Including groups, and someone who put an ickuw teddy bear in a Union Jack vest on top.]

Ah bless!

Reported this morning that it had already been vandalized by scraping off the gold paint in parts to reveal the red box underneath, and was already being repainted

[Not bless.]

Apparently, if Yorkshire was a country it would be tenth in the medal table.

If Scotland were a country, fuck me it is! 9% of team GB, 50% of the medals(on Sunday evening, may have changed now)

I'm hoping for a referendum on Yorkshire independence by 2014.

Only if we get Startforth, Bowland, Middlesbrough; Redcar; Guisborough, and Dent/Sadberge back.

[And bin off Lincolnshire back to the East Midlands.]

A separate referendum would be needed for places like Finningley to see if they want to go back home to Notts,  for Saddleworth to decide if they want to remain joined at the hip to Oldham, and for West Todmorden to decide if it makes more sense to use the town boundary as the border or the river.

PR Yorkshire has another good medal oppertunity today in the triathlon

Gold & Bronze. Would have been Silver but for a daft penalty.  :beer2:

Can I ask where you found that info? Been wondering about that given the TV presenters ( yes Lineker you!) infuriating inability to distinguish Gb from England.

Not sure where it started from, but google it and there are loads of references; twitter, eurosport, daily fail, etc.

The statistics behind the Yorkshire thing are here:

With obligatory quote from "Professional Yorkshireman" Dickheady Bird.

If you look at the stats from the Guardian article, it doesn't really support that claim at all.... maybe it was after we'd only won a few.

Like I said, i think it only worked on Sunday evening, just after Murray had got two.

Also I think both the Yorkshire  and Scotland claims have been applied to a member of a team being from there, which would make the (medal) sum considerably greater than the parts.

Scotland have 5 in total at the mo, assume that was the same on Sunday, the UK would have had to have won their other 33 since then; seems to be a little weak on facts compared to the Yorkshire claim!

Stubbs, Slackers has hacked your account.

As I said I only heard it, I've not done the actual numbercrunching. A quick google immediately shows more than 5 though

I'm getting really pissed off with all the "if Yorkshire was a country" quotes, when we all know that Yorkshire is a republic.
