SCC Rights of Way team taking a bulldozer to Houndkirk again............. (Read 7557 times)

Just to let you all know that the Sheffield Rights of Way vandals are at it again. They're intending to flatten the final bit of Jumbles Road just before it reaches Houndkirk Rd, ie, the only bit that offers a bit of fun. They're also going to nuke the section just past the bridge on H'kirk Rd installing yet more unsightly boulders. As far as I can tell, this is a fait a compli but feel free to send them an email if you have any objections. Work to be carried out as below:

They will claim that it's to reduce 4x4 incursions onto the moor and stop the widening of the track Dolly. For me, the cure is worse than the disease. They're turning Sheffield's gateway onto the moor into a feckin' eyesore......

Too true stom. Spoke to the man in charge at SCC rights of way yesterday and the work starts within a fortnight, so if you want to let them know what you think of this nonsense, do it now!!

Latest fun and games - persons unknown have destroyed the fine old gate at the Sheephill Rd end of Jumbles Rd. Looks like someone with a big powerful vehicle, (Oh, I dunno, maybe a 4x4?!) has attached chains to the gateposts and dragged them out of the ground. The provisional wing of the 4x4 movement maybe?

....and what's more, I've spoken to Mick Hanson at the SCC ROW dept and there's a chance that will reward said vandal by widening the gate when they reinstate it! If that happens, the following scenario will undoubtedly unfold - 4x4's will begin to use the lower portion of Jumbles Rd with greater frequency, it will turn into a mudbath and then the SCC ROW dept will use that as an excuse to spend more taxpayers money resurfacing it. At which point, the 4x4's that caused the problem in the first place will turn their attentions elsewhere. The End. I fuckin' give up......

Update:

It was a tractor that destroyed the gate with a trailer. It will be widened so it doesnt happen again....

Nice!, that means at least at the gate that I can get past obnoxious walkers as they generally just stand and stare, then do some pathetic dive in order to avoid being mowed down by a Landrover travelling at 5mph. Try doing that in the middle of town and see how the local white van man reacts....

Wrong. The gates been replaced, same size, so no through road....
