>>> CIRCLE
...
One of the most severely unique bands currently operating in Europe as well as one of the most prolific, this is the first time the band has played on UK soil in over 5 years. These Finns have left no genre stone untouched across their 20 plus year career, their very essence is "ever changing, ever Circular". Across their huge discography, these Finns have mined musics as diverse as Kitsch-Heavy Metal (Katapult, 2007, Tulikoira, 2005), Isolationist Sound-track work (Miljard, 2006), Tantric-Prog Freakouts (Empire, 2004, Arkades, 2006) and Rhodes-Lounge Jazz (Tower, 2007) and even collaborating with Sundburned Hand of the Man (The Blaze Game, 2007). The fact is that none of these works encapsulates the description given - these tags are more overt reference point, an attempt to attach something identifiable with each release - which is the exact opposite of what Circle are about. All that can be assured is that Circle will take the listener on a mesmeric journey through everything that is good about avant-rock and beyond.

>>> SECRET CHIEFS 3

Secret Chiefs 3 tear down boundaries and smash open minds, take no prisoners and never compromise. The Bay Area band is led by guitarist/ saz player Trey Spruance (of Mr Bungle, ASVA, Faith No More), whose alchemical compositions fuse Eastern scales with Surf music, black metal, techno, Morricone-esque grandeur and everything in between. The band includes members of Kayo Dot, Estradasphere and The New York Arabic Orchestra- all master musicians on a profound quest for the philosopher's stone.
Their new album Book of Souls is out in October.

Full SC3 set:

>>> a.P.A.t.T.

Completely original bewildering orchestra using every styles possible to create a daft yet beautiful mess. Running all over stage whilst swapping instruments. Eclectic doesnt cover it. The "Liverpool fantastic 4" sound like the best bits of everything you have heard.

>>> TROJAN HORSE

Crowned Kings of Manchester 'Prog Nouveau' scene, Trojan Horse have made a massive impact on the scene since the release of their self titled debut album and it's utterly deserved. Wheeling a blend of classic post-hardcore crunch, Beach Boys vocal radiance and vintage prog noodling..... and even a sea shanty(!) - Trojan Horse sound like a reinvented version of the classic Canterbury scene sound updated for our cynical times - displaying a sincere Englishness rarely seen in indie rock these days.

>>> CHARLIE BARNES AND THE GEEKS

The first time Fat Out have had the pleasure of putting these guys on, and the first time we'll see them live. But if the video below is anything to go by, Mr Barnes hyper-taught, grit-funk mathematics will be applauded by the sound of jaws dropping to the floor.

This is going to be an intense night INDEED!

My PhD student has a.P.A.t.T. has one of his subjects - at least it started that way but they seem to have co-opted/subverted him now. From what I've heard it should be a great gig.
