Wanted: Family accomodation for Font
September 12, 2011, 01:49:26 am
Going to Font next year and I am taking the wife and my little boy. Anyone got any good suggestions of where to stay with wife and child friendly stuff to do close-by?

We've stayed at the Musardiere campsite  for the last 2 years.  Has great swimming pools, a playground for the kids, and loads of other kids to play with (and mums/dads to climb with!). A bit pricy for a campsite but worth it.

Just a word of warning from one dad to another.
Having persuaded the wife that a week camping in Font would be the perfect family holiday with our 1yr old we booked into Les Courtilles du Lido campsite (on a UKB recommendation no less!)
Take a look at the map on their website.

Notice that massive rail intersection 400m south of the site? We did!
Heavy good trains rattling through there woke us ALL up several times a night every night!

Such a shame as everything else about the site was perfect.

Personally I'd look elsewhere.

I always stay here.

A bit longer from the forest, but half the price of le musardiere.

if you stay in the bivouac you can even have your own fire in the evening.

http://www.gites-de-france.com  if you don't want to camp, Ile De France is the region, and then see which village you fancy staying in by checking the map in your climbing guide.  I've not stayed in a bad gite, but some are obviously better than others, as denoted by the ears of corn!

It really depends what you mean by wife and child friendly, the forest is beautiful, which hopefully everyone can appreciate, there's a few lido's like the one at Buthiers http://www.base-de-buthiers.fr/ Paris is only about an hour on the train.  Barbizon has some nice galleries and a few nice shops.

+1 for Neils recommendation. We stayed maisonbleau earlier in the year with my 2 kids, 2 and 4. Digital tv meant kids in front of Cbeebies with a brioche and a lay in for us.

Kids pool at buthiers was a hit. Don't forget your budgie smugglers!

 Not having any family its not anything that I'd ever considered, but it never woke me or anyone else up (though we have stayed in the static caravans and been :beer2: :pissed: )
