Weekend trip ideas, from Bristol?
August 18, 2011, 02:03:31 pm
Can anyone recommend a venue worth making a weekend trip to from Bristol? Only really interested in bouldering, and in the Font 7s. Gritstone suggestions will not be considered!

The Holy Cave is a bit far and Dinas Rock is too close. I'm lacking in ideas.

Thanks alot!

Hartland quay. Could combine with tintagel and other stuff on that coast.

Parisellas is  about 3 1/2 hrs, dinas is about 1 1/2 hrs.
that's a pretty narrow range you're giving.
I'd say parisellas, along with most bouldering this side of northumberland is in range for a weekend.

Aye, there are tons, but not all have the concentration of probs in the 7s range that Hartland does.

Thanks for the Hartland idea. What is the climbing like at this new granite venue near Dartmoor, in the woods? Can't think of the name. Vert, small holds, sharp?

Cave is more like 4 1/2 hours. We're just thinking about somewhere else to try.

Shaptor? never been, but if the rock's much like the rest of the moor then it'll not be kind to the skin to say the least.

Only taken me more than 4 when traffic has intervened. And I drive like my gran.  ;D

Vert, small holds, sharp describes just about everywhere on Dartmoor!

I think you mean Bovey Woods? http://www.javu.co.uk/Climbing/Articles/TheWoods/index.shtml

Never been, but looks pretty cool. Not sure if there is a detailed topo online.

I haven't been to any of these venues, however i saved the links on my computer in case i am ever in south wales...

Sure that you could have a great weekend (or more) of esoteric bouldering at the venues mentioned.

Thanks for the info.

Yes, Bovey Woods, but it sounds now more like a winter / spring venue, and my skin cannot take granite (hence the gritstone comment earlier).
