Not My Stile - Caley
May 24, 2011, 11:45:50 pm
How do you do the top? Is there a dignified way of humping away at it?

I got to the pinch rail thing on the left a few times and couldn't pull hard enough to get over the top. I tried matching it and rocking up with a high left but that failed. Can't quite see it going using the right arete. My feet are are on ok smears near the green groove bit. Any guidance is most welcome!

It's unnerving at the top too, glad to have a spotter.

I think that would be viewed as unsportsmanlike. I can't really remember but will be keen to try and repeat it with you after Thursday. Let me know if you're going up.

Trust at Guisecliff.

He makes that look a bit easy doesn't he?! Will be interesting to see if it stays at 7B when a few more tall people get on it... Still a great problem whatever grade it is though!

I've not tried it yet unfortunately but apparently there's only one tricky move. I really want to get on it though! Guisecliff is a fantastic crag, everyone should go there and do every problem, they're all classic and most of them have a nice bit of spice to boot!

I thought getting off the ground was the hardest part which is why I suspect it'd feel easier if you can pull on with your left hand on the sidepull.

At risk of turning this into a thread about Trust, that's exactly what I thought...if you can reach the sidepull off the deck it's not gonna be as trciky.

For me (five foot seven) there's a hard move off the ground to get the sidepull and hold the swing, and higher up there's a tricky move to get stabilised (using a pebble scar IIRC). That said the padding about is no walk in the park as you have to contend with the unnerving crunchiness of the smears...this is Guisecliff remember!

Excellent problem, underrated venue IMO.

I've not been since Nige did Super G but it was getting a bit overgrown back then (off the top of my head this was just after the clocks went forward)...

...evening conditions were good, if a little breezy, but at least it kept temps down. Once session after work felt like a November afternoon at Almscliff!

We went the other day, it would have been a mingfest were it not for the gales we've been experiencing recently. It's much like Caley Crag is in summer- brackeny, overgrown, still and hot. And, despite the bouldering being amazing, it doesn't get much traffic so it can get a bit dirty, which is a real shame.

Oi, my threads been derailed :off:

Just kidding. I didn't want any micro beta, just seeing how some folk did the top out. Got something to try at now. Trust does look pretty good, though the crag must be getting very overgrown. The main crag looks as though plants are sprouting all over the place.

To top out on Not My Stile, I rocked onto something on my left foot- it was 5 years ago now though so I've forgotten, sorry! I should do it again some time.

isn't it a fairly straightforward (if slightly disconcerting) mantle? I'm obviously not as flexible as Andy and don't recall getting a high foot.

Just grope away until you find something suitable to palm down fiercely on!
