Luckily I found the true cause and was able to treat this appropriately.  Please PM for more details.

Is this a new LagerStarFishTM business, or is he now outsourcing to other providers?

Most RSIs are a result of a mind-body disorder.

Regardless of anything to do with RSI this is bollocks of the very highest order. What the fuck is mind-body disorder?

Maybe its being pissed?

Now then; I'm not a scientist, BUT I have been to the pub for the first time since the birth of my first son.

A "mind-body disorder" is when the mind and the body are telling each other things that have not been mutually agreed upon.

Imagine a man who wants to interact with various items within his field of vision, but cannot be arsed to type accurate instructions into his computer. Instead he uses a small device that lets him translate his thoughts into movements which are understood by a machine which has been programmed by another person.

The original programmer thought that everything he did was what everyone else would want to do.

That programmer, due to being a young human male, spent a lot of his spare time masturbating.

The responses that his programmes required were not far removed from wanking.

Wanking for 6 hours a day will hurt something.

sorry, I've forgotten what the point was

any way - if your wrist hurts, it hurts; and anyone who tells you otherwise is asking for a slap.

Not trying to sell anything I assure you.  Honestly just trying to help.  There are many other illness and disease directly related to stress.  Think back pain and peptic ulcer being the most common.  CTS among other RSI are noted to be related as well.  I can site many refrences and resources for those interested.  Its amazing how many people outrightly refuse the diagnosis.  Especially climbers that put tremendous strain on there wrists while climbing and then complain when they get pain from mousing for several hours.

Sorry for distracting you guys from the nature of this tread.  I am new here and will regain my Karma!  -2 out of 5 posts is a bad way to start.

Oh well.

I wouldn't worry about it, both from the same person, who hasn't even posted on this thread, first time marginal and the second time pretty much entirely unjustified. Your initial post was strangely put and may have come across wrong, but I'd say you've done nowt to deserve the puntering. Your last post is worth starting to restore the balance imo.

2 decades in IT programming and support plus a lot of PC based gaming has caused me the odd issue or two with pain over the years especially in the lower arm and oddly the shoulder and upper back at times - so bad at times I wondered if a new career might be on the cards. After doing some trials or arm and seating position I found it was the gaming that was the killer as it meant my arm was extended with little support for significant periods of time (you get carried away with the game and think little of what your arm is doing beyond beating the crap out of the enemy), the use of the purpose made wrist supports or ensuring I changed positions regularly helped massively - analyse your arm/seating positions and see if your arm is extended, also make sure you are seated correctly and have not developed bad habits like sitting slightly sideways, hunched, stretched too far forwards or slouched etc. If any of these apply correct them and see what happens

If all the above around arm and seating position is kosher then try a trackball and/or a wrist support- one of my engineers had carpal tunnel syndrome and had to switich from using a mouse to a trackball - he too now can work for extended periods on documents without trouble  :)

After correcting my posture I now do a lot of documentation work on the laptop and touch wood have no issues - now I've gone and done it ...

The suggestion of learning to use the left hand is genius, wish I'd tried it - one minor question though and that is if the problem in the right hand was originally caused by bad posture/support will this not potentially cause a repeat of the same injury but on the left???

Sounds like a mild "inflammtion" in the extensor muscles.  Check out these stretches if you are not already doing them.

BTW how are you getting along?

Its remarkably easy to learn to use the left - I'm now pretty much ambidextrous with a mouse. With regard to your second point, if you can use a both hands then you at least have the option of alternating and getting a bit of balance.

Point taken Dylan.

Great place, stayed in the old "haunted" hotel and all. Had a fun time climbing at Granite Dells, and getting lost trying to get to Granite Mountain. Wanted to check out the bouldering, but never did.
