My council is really trying to give the youths something to do to keep them from stabbing pensioners and bursting kittens on a weekend, so I think I might nave a fair chance of persuading them to buy an artificial boulder for my local park to sit next to the skate ramps and other "sik" stuff.
Problem is, nobody seems to want to sell me one! I've been in touch with a few manufacturers but I keep getting either ignored or a none commital "get back to you" response.

Has anybody on here ever tried anything like this?
Does anybody know someone who could give me some ideas of price and prep work required? I can do all the organising, but I need some details first!

Tried 'Lagerstartfish scrittle based youth control solutions international (inc)'?

Rockworks did this one: http://www.cyclepdfs.co.uk/climb.pdf

See if Granticus got any useful PMs.

I'm sure there is a thread on here somewhere already too, but searching only returned the above.

Bendcrete did the Heeley one (and I think the others in Sheffield), but I'm guessing they're the ones not replying to emails (I'm assuming from "touch").  Perhaps try calling and speaking to someone instead (if you've not already), bit old fashioned but its more direct.

Maybe contact the councils in areas that have boulders installed and find out how much they cost (probably planning permission details in the archives that can be dug out).

What other manufacturers have you tried contacting who aren't responding (so that we know)?  As well as Bendcrete above there is also GaleForce, 3Dclimb and others that I can't be bothered listing (as you may have already tried them).

In these current cash strapped times I suspect you'd get a quicker answer if you had some funding available, as them boulders don't come cheap. I helped get the funding for one in our local park in 2006.  Got Normanton Girls' Club to put a lottery bid in and the boulder was built by Bendcrete.  I can probably find some of the details if you are interested?

If you could find any details that would be great! Sorry it's taken so long to reply, I've been living in a hole in wales for a week.

GaleForce don't make boulders, all the pictures on their site are Bendcrete builds.

3d are based in Germany so are probably quite expensive

Try contacting Zig Zag Climbing Walls - we are based in Sheffield and we're currently installing a boulder in Green Oak Park in Totley. Can give you some advice on funding etc.

(moderators - sorry for shameless commercial plug  )

Fuck you Ash. My time at King Kong was a set up from start to finish. I'd say avoid King Kong for a whole load of other reasons, nothing to do with with me getting fired.
