if it was me doing it, id be tempted too use resin and then pin it later on too keep it solid, either that or demand anone who touch it too loose a few stone?

Bill Hickish for the resin

 :agree:

I'm happy to chip in for any resin costs if you don't have enough Chris!

Doylo, you can get a quick drying araldite which works really well. It goes off very quickly with a good amount of 'grab' eliminating the need for props, a certain Mr Higginson used to use this and the holds he glued have stood the test of time, but lets not go there.. :worms:

Doylo, you can get a quick drying araldite which works really well.

Although Araldite would probably be strong enough with a large contact area, Araldite was often used in the Peak pre-sika on old routes that have now lost the glued on holds. I think the Tom's roof hold was Araldited on and that's been there 30 odd years, but plenty others (ie most of Tribes) have broken off again. It's nowhere near as strong as polyester resin.

whats the difference between polyester and acrylic resin? Im under the impression theyre similar strength wise but for bolting purposes acrylic is better as  its more suited for wet rock.

Acrylate's very marginally stronger but the chemical resistance is the main difference, making it a good choice for harsh salt water environments like the Orme. Or so I'm told.  :smartass:
I'm coming out of hibernation soon, might actually make it to the orme next week.

and don't forget Doylo no matter what you use if you don't prepare the surface well then it ain't gonna stick as well so get your Marigolds out from your bottom bed side draw and get scrubbing!

Slightly off topic but can you use any of these resins/glues to glue rocks onto an indoor wooden climbing wall?

you'll probably end up ripping the surface of the wood off if there's too much leaverage, the wood being the weakest link usually.

Doyle:  The slot needs a good clean as plenty of people have been trying the moves sans block.  Also I'm happy to chip in some cash for the glue or meet you down there if you need a hand

I'm gonna get some white spirits and give the block and the rock a good scrub. I've got some glue just need a spare hour.
