Spain in March with 3 generations of family
November 15, 2010, 10:40:15 am
Hi

It looks like a large family holiday may be on the cards fo March.  It would include my wife and 8 month (by then) daughter, my parents and parents in law.

What I'm after would be a destination.  One thats warmish, cultural (not the costas), not too far from an airport with a handy crag
for a few half days.  A crag with short approach and a get set of routes in the mid to high 7's would be ideal.

I had thought about going to Monachil, just outside of Granada and climbing at Los Cahorros.  Anyone know if it will be a bit chilly in mid March?

All recomendations appreciated.

thanks

I have been going to Ghandia region recently.  Definitely away from the main UK/German areas. The beaches are very popular with Spanish tourists though. Ghandia itself is a really attractive large town, Valencia is only a 6 Euro train ride away, lots of typical Spanish villages/towns (Potries, Villa Longa)around the area, where you could base yourself. The area has lots of parks and play areas for children. (Feel free to contact me directly for more specific details)

Ghandia crag is 15 mins drive out of Ghandia town. Lots of high quality routes in the 6b-7c range. Bit of a sun trap, so I tend to do early mornings, then spend the afternoon with the family.

Oh yes I have 17 month old and have been 3 times since she was born.

(not the costas)

What do you mean by not the Costa? I think every part of the Spanish coast is "costa" something?

Are you specifically looking for something inland then?

You could base yourself in Reus for example and have access to all the Costa Durada crags? Plus easy to get to Barcelona and the coast

By 'not the Costas' I mean away from large resorts more than inland.

Gandia may be an option.  I climbed there in Feb for a few days while in Valencia.  Being costal it would probably
be nice and warm for those not fussed about the climbing.

the key thing I think will be keeping the grandparents happy.  I think Granada or Seville may do this best.

Has anyone climbed at Archidona or Loja in mid March?  I'm just worried that if I drag everyone there i may get
whinged at if the temps plumet late in the day.
