If Overnite is dry, then yes.

I’m heading to Malham on Monday for my long overdue first trip there. Apologies for the hijack but can I ask for some advice from you regulars? :please:

I’ve been told to expect lots of side pulls/gastons/undercuts and poor footholds. Is this true and are there any specific tactics/insider knowledge I should be aware of?

I think Rose Coronary, Consenting Adults and perhaps a look at free and even easier will be on the cards.

Very excited.

Forecast looks sunny for Monday too. Climbing in the sun at Malham is dazzling and hard work. For the routes you named you need to start real early for them to be out of the sun. Mid afternoon the sun goes off the crag starting with the left side which has the longer thuggier airier routes like Appetite and Taking the Space. Personally I think they are also better routes than the 30footers like Rose Coronary etc on the right which stay in the sun longer and are more conditions dependent. The sidepulls/gaston/undercuts and poor footholds observation is correct. Most people find the style of climbing hard to get used to. Some like Barrows never do.
Take a clipstick. A walk to the top of the crag is worth it for the view and the limestone paving. The best pub in the village is the Listers. The crag gets mobile reception. Take a clipstick. Park free at the back of the now shut Cove Centre but dont block access or have a piss there (toilet in the village). Think thats about it.

You want it all. Dry rock and cloudy conditions.

Park free at the back of the now shut Cove Centre but dont block access or have a piss there (toilet in the village).

Parking at the back of the Cove Centre really pisses the guy who lives at the house back there, he's now negotiated (bought) official access to his house up the shared drive and has threatened to lock the gate.

The Old Barn Cafe does the best scones in Yorkshire. A clipstick isn't essential. The only route that it's permissible to grab the chains on is Raindogs.

The house is also for sale I noticed.

Thanks Shark.

I had already planned to take the clipstick and am fully prepared to be humiliated by not being used to the style of climbing!

I think for me just turning up is a good start because it's taken a while before I thought I was climbing well enough to warrant a trip there.

Hopefully, conditions permitting, I'll get some regular trips up there and gather some projects to keep the motivation high to train over winter.

Oh and I found the thread on UKC about parking as I wasn't sure of the situation. YDNP car park for me.

I can't see it shifting any time soon, meanwhile he's still on the Parish council and I think it's best not to give him anything to moan about.

Nope, that kind of thing's only acceptable on Raindogs - all other chains have to be clipped.
