[Pentire] [Psycho Cowboy] [7C/+]
June 21, 2010, 11:34:59 am
Several new problems have been put up between Pentire and Rumps on the north cornwall coast. Lots of stuff in the 6B to 7A range plus a few harder lines including Psycho cowboy. Worth seeking out for both locals and travelling boulderers.

Sounds interesting, got any more info than this? Always thought there would be some stuff around there but never actually looked.

Chris this is from javu:

North Coast Bouldering Action (13 April 2010)
The North Coast continues to yield bouldering opportunities. Oliver Wheeldon (pictured below, with the ripped back!) reports on his new problems at Polzeath, North Cornwall:

"Oliver Wheeldon has recently made the first ascent of "Pask Lowan" V8/7b and "Blood, Sweat and Tears V10/7c+ (the sit start to Pask Lowan). Both problems are high quality and potentially some of the best on this part of the coast. They are situated midway between Polzeath beach and Pentire Point in 'Cowries Cove'. Fellow local climber Will Murray has repeated Pask Lowan has confirmed both the quality and grade."

.... please let me know of any feedback on these problems.
Update: Mad Max Dutson has been in touch: "I did the easier problem a couple years ago (I reckon about V5) but there are lots of little holds and Oliver may have eliminated some of them. There are lots of other lovely "undiscovered" (ie. unrecorded!) problems in this cove and other side of beach at Polzeath as well as couple routes on slab right in front of New Polzeath itself (at E1-2)".

More problems have been added to the Pentire circuit, most notably is Dolly's Death 7A+. This is a mint highball (20ft) arete that stands out on the skyline high in the north boulder field. I did work the moves on a shunt first so it still awiats a ground up ascent. I top roped Dolly's Death over summer but didn't have the balls to do it above one mat, the only move i that posed any problems for me was the from the sloper at the top! Also did an amazing long traverse on a huge boulder ~50m right of Dolly's Death (if facing out to sea). There was already chalk marks on the traverse so I assume Tom had already crushed it!

Oh yeah and it took me ages to work out why that arete was called 'dolly's death', that sheep corpse is grim!
