font-paris park n ride?
July 19, 2010, 12:54:51 pm
Hey guys, should pre-empt this by saying i've tried searching...

Taking the gf to font; expect to be staying as usual at camping les pres: http://www.camping-grez-fontainebleau.info/

What's the best way to park and ride to paris for a day-trip? Font? (i've never been to the train station there). Or is somewhere else quicker/cheaper parking/less hassle?

Thanks,

Sam

I'm sure Neil or bkb will be able to help, but gtting the train from Malesherbes is probably easier. There is a big pay car park at the station in Font itself though, and I think one in Avon too.

Where you are I wouldn't consider Malesherbes, you might want to go from GARE DE BOURRON MARLOTTE GREZ or a little further down the track (next station?)is Nemour, I can't quite remember which of the 2 would be easier to get to from the camping, but both are close . Sorry I can't give you any more info but I don't use this line as it is a little to far east for us. If not then Font rahter than Malesherbes.

Double check when the last train of the night getting back is, for instance the last train to leave paris for Malesherbes is around 9pm where as it is much later (approx midnight) for Font, and it is almost around the clock for Melun.

This website could be of use to you for train times from Nemour  http://www.transilien.com/web/site/accueil/etat-trafic/chercher-itineraire/lang/en

Forget about the train. It is long, not cheap, boiling hot inside at this season, and there are not so many of them away from the commuting hours.
My very best recomandation, which I give to all of my guests here, is to drive the A6 up to "porte d'Orleans", right at the end of that motorway, where there is a 24/7 undergound car park in which you have a direct access to the metro station.
Lots of advantages, especially that you don't have to check out on the time tables to come back in the evening.
You are more than welcome to send me a message for more info and details if interested.

We've done Font-Paris a couple of times. Parked in Font/Avon station car park and bought a return ticket which also included unlimited metro access. About 4 years ago it was about 15 euros. It took about half an hour. I think we came back around about 7-8pm from Gare de Lyon. No problems. It was very useful being able to hop on and off the metro without having to queue each time.

Thanks for all the replies boys n girls

Current plan is to buy a joint train/metro ticket for the first day and then take stef's advice for the second so we can stay out late. Will report back on which is better!

We spent a day in Paris this week.  We went from Fontainebleau on the train on a 6 zone travel ticket, so metro/bus/water bus all included.  Cost 44 Euros for 2 adults and one child (age 4-11).  Parking at Font was 7 Euros.

No problems, 45 minutes into Paris (Gare de Lyon) then bummed around on the Metro here and there.  There are 4-5 trains an hour each way, the last one back was around midnight.
