Alderley Edge
July 13, 2010, 10:23:15 am
Whilst visiting Harmer's the last couple of times, a few different people we've met have mentioned Alderley Edge.

I've only been to the 'Edge' once for a walk about 10 years ago and thought that the rock was too crumbly for climbing, however looking for photos/info on t'interweb there's this quarry nearby which could have potential - no idea how tall it is, could only be 3 foot high :)

There are lots more recent photos posted on UKC of the various boulders/rock in the nearby area:

This one looking the most promising:

Anyone been? Worth a visit?

I grew up in Knutsford and went to school in Alderley for a few years. I looked pretty hard, but never found anything worth climbing - the rock is very soft, with conglomerate bands pull of snappy pebbles. That said I've not been since pads were invented so ymmv.

The caving is good fun though - went on a couple of trips down the mines whilst at school.

Cheers JB - yeah I always thought the rock was not too good.

It's just that 2 separate groups we met said that it was ok... it got me thinking.

Will have to re-visit and re-evaluate, some of the areas on the UKC gallery look ok to me.
