Hootsuite alternative?
May 19, 2010, 11:39:03 am
Work have banned Hootsuite, along with almost every other blog or 'social networking' site know to man.  This means I now can't check Twitter from work.

Are there any other sites similar to Hootsuite (which lets you view and post on Twitter via another site) which they might not have blocked yet?  Or do I just need to suck it up and hope they don't start taking down my forum options too.  :'(

Thank you!

You could try Firefox plugins if you're allowed FF at work.

Twitbin is quite good.

I'm not allowed FF.  We're still on IE 7 or something like that.

How about portable apps?

If you've a google account you could set up an iGoogle page with an RSS feed of your twitter stream so you could at least read what's being posted (although you couldn't post).

Also if you do have a google account look at getting Buzz working with twitter maybe?

Why does it all have to be so complicated?!  :'(

I might give something portable a go, although my machine won't play CDs t the moment so I don't have high hopes for anything more.

I don't think Buzz will let me see everything though, Slackers, only tweets of those also on Buzz, so just you and Plattsy.  :-*

Get a USB stick and grab at least Firefox from Portable Apps and stick it on the USB stick.  Providing you can plug in USB devices/sticks at work you shuold be good to go.

 a rather major flaw in that idea!

Cool, I'll try that at the weekend.

Will it show up in my histroy or one the machince that I've been using Firefox, or does running it from a USB stick stop that?

Running FF from portable apps won't affect the history of the browser installed on the computer, I've no idea whether there is such a thing as "recently run programs" under M$ nor if there is whether this will show up in that.

You might leave a footprint that a USB device has been plugged in, and there's a remote possibility that some footprint will be left in RAM, but I don't know enough about M$ intricacies to be able to comment on that either.

Ok, it sounds like it shouldn't be massively obvious.  If anything does seem odd or show up I'll just bin the idea, I need a job more than I need Twitter access.

Thank you!
