Running Hill Pits?

Anybody know if you still need to ring for permission as it says in the venerable On Peak Rock? Any recommendations?

Sure your not thinking of Underwood? I think you have to ring to go there, never heard of doing it for the Pits.

I once tried ringing up to check about going to Bamford, but the number in my 1989 Stanage guide was defunct.
I think a lot of access issues became irrelevant after the CRoW act of (somewhen I can't remember), although this likely had little influence on privately owned quarries I'd imagine.

I think I should probably invest in a new guidebook perhaps....

I'd wait a few month and buy the BMC moorland grit guide when it's out, it will be a million times better than the rockfax and a lot more up to date.
I'm pretty sure you don't need to ring ahead, but you can find out for sure by checking the regional access database on the BMC website.

Looking at the online maps, it seems the Pits are on
open access land
(as are Upperwood, is there an Underwood too?), though the track up is not, nor is it a right-of-way. My experience, though, is wot Dense sed.

I've not rang Mr Crowther to visit the Pits for ages.
I'd just ring him if you were planning to go to Upperwood Quarry which is right opposite his farm anyway.

Not that Mr Crowther. Jeez. My Crowther of Upperwood has a very definate cloth cap, sheeptog in tow and shotgun slung over his shoulder.
Come on down...

Cheers for the info.. So, if it is spitting with rain now will RHPits be good later because they are high windy and quickdrying, or bad because they will be catching the clagg and damper.. Hmmm
