For those of us who are partial to watching the fine art of tub thumbing, I though I'd start a thread to show appreciation for the most maligned member of a band.
I'll start with the master at work:

Showboat drummers are the pits
I like this for different reasons: the way the drums come in after the big break @ 3:58 validates the bands career

Drum solos - for gigs that are so long they need a piss-break.
Professionally I'd hate to work with Peart - can you imagine how long that soundcheck would take?
"snare please... 2nd snare please... cowbell... other cowbell....other cowbell...FFS! how many fuckin' cowbells do you need?"
I worked with Evelyn Glennie last year, she was did easy - only had a single snare drum.

Ingerdients for an awesome drum solo:
1 huge open air festival, the like of which has never and will never be seen again.
1 incredible band
1 even more incredible 20yr old Michael Shrieve, and a rook load of acid!!!

They all look fucking well roasted
If I could travel back in time for a few days, Woodstock would be high on my list of places to go.
Love the Bonham one too - proper old self-indulgent rock drum solo, the guy was awesome.

I watched the band at The Broadfield last night , they were doing 'Pretty Vacant ' as was I walking past , and while the drummer did his solo the rest of the band hung about and watched
..... What happened to the days of snorting gack off groupies arses whilst the non-musician in the band made noise and sweated all over the place ......
