Budmunk & The Plumbers Link- Thorn Crag
October 29, 2008, 01:29:52 pm
Trekked over to the Loaf boulder yesterday and gave Budmunk a go. Couldn't quite work out where the problem started. We were starting LH on the nobble to the right of the undecling and RH up on a poor slope on the lip. Then LF down on the obvious cleaned thing to the left and RF very low on a low rail down to the right. We were trying to pull up from this to slap to the 'good' sloper to the right, but this seemed too hard for 7b.
Anyone got ay beta or is just a question of pulling hard??

Also, Plumbers Link at the Crag boulders- does this come across high to the edge on AFMNT or is lower than that (via the undercling/sidepull)?

Any beta would be great.

Also, anyone know what the difference between Budmunk and Lollygagger is?

Staying on the Thorn Crag theme...what grade does Squirelling Dervishes get? And does the Fnt 7a problem to the right of it have a name? Cheers!

Blimey Jake looks like you're talking to youreself!

You need Greg to put you straight on the first 2, but I think squirrelling got 7a+ originally, but may have come down  a couple of grades since after me and Ken did it - again ask Greg.  The one to the right is called 'the man from del monte' I think.  Both are really good.

Are they not on the lakesbloc topos?

Budmunk

Start matched on undercut, pull up to slopey rampy thingy.  Match then swim.

Start as for easy Karma to the sidepull thing.  Stretch across to the sidepull on AFMNT, match, LH undercut to drop back into the start of FMS and up this.  That's what I've tried, may not be right but seemed fair for 7b+.

Also, anyone know what the difference between Budmunk and Lollygagger is?

As far as i know, Lollygagger was the initial name for it.

The Man from Del Monte.

I may be wrong with some of this, but it's how i understand it to work.  Hopefully Greg will be along later to correct me.

Well what do you do when you're unemployed and bored! Had a good session up there the other day and got a lot of psyche on for Thorn! Me, Andi and Charlie did FMS, Tom should have done it but his shoes have gone thru and foot kept popping. When you next up this way? We should get a Thorn mission going on!

Cheers for the info GCW. Will give them a go when I'm next there!

After going and doing Budmunk today, I've done some reading.  It seems the sequence you describe was called Budmunk in an older version of the guide.  The exact same description is given as Lollygagger on UKC.  Both these are given 7b, and doing it today that felt about right.
The new description of Budmunk is what I described above, at 7a+.  I didn't try it as the undercut was gopping wet.

I hope that's all correct.  Greg?

I've only just noticed this: Yes GCW all your info above is correct as far as I can tell. The Man From Del Monte did originally get 7a, but on reflection it's probably 7a+. Yule Jewel may be harder than 7a+ n'all.
