Download Machines?
February 16, 2009, 07:19:57 pm
Anyone have any tips for download machines or managers or whatever the correct terminology for this type of software is, please.

Just found this blog http://www.foriegnmoviesddl.com/ which uses r*pidshare mostly *shudder / washes mouth out* and I want an easy way of DLing 10-part films in under a month...

Thanks in advance.

(Please don't recommend torrents, they annoy me more than r*pidshare *spits*)

The limitation of rapisshare is that it ID's you, no doubt based on IP and then limits the number of simulatenous downloads you can have at any one time/number per month on a free account.

Solution, fool it into thinking its not you donwloading the different files by using a proxy server to view the site and download them.

The drawback is that

a) I can't think of (or be arsed to find) any software that does this automagically.
b) You still have a bottleneck on the download as its coming from one location to your location (albeit through a proxy).

Torrents are good, providing there are enough seeders, I'd imagine that (based simply on the films listed at the site you link) that some of the films aren't going to be that popular and therefore when they do appear on torrent trackers there won't be many people seeding them, so you're kind of in a catch 22 situation.

One more thing I can't envisage that site hanging around for long either, its a blog hosted by blogger (i.e. Google) and they'll likely remove it soon after getting wind that they're hosting it.  Dan (I think, the guy who made "Some Climbers" and the other one on gritstone headpointing who's name eludes me at present) had a similar blog linking to tons of climbing films hosted on rapisshare and similar sites.  Meant to get some, but went back a week or so later and the site had gone.

The easy solution is to just pay for a Rapidshare Premium Account. If there's a lot of films you want then pay for a month and have a download spree; it's only seven euros for a month's access. Then you can use any download manager to get everything you want.

I doubt that using proxies will be a good solution as most free proxies are slow and not really suitable for doing large downloads, even to the extent of actively blocking them.

Saying that torrents annoy you is a bit like saying all websites annoy you. Bittorrent is just a protocol like http://

There's a reason why torrent traffic takes up such a large percentage of all web traffic - it's great at it's job. The problem is just finding the right tracker. Somewhere there will be a tracker that deals only in the sort of films you're after. Sniffing it out and getting membership might be hard, just as it is with the good music trackers.

If you're still looking, Houd, check out JDownloader

It simplifies downloading files from One-Click-Hosters like Rapidshare.com or Megaupload.com - not only for users with a premium account but also for users who don't pay.
