Moving to Dorset, need answers!!
August 02, 2009, 01:56:49 pm
Hello! I am a Norwegian who will be moving to Bournemouth in September, and wants to climb as much as possible. I have done a bit of research, and the amount of crags is not a concern to me as there seems to be plenty of quality climbing nearby. (I will have a car). However what concerns me is the lack of dedicated indoor training facilities. I am not necessarily looking for a large commercial climbing gym, just a place that has a 40-50 degree overhanging training board. So is there something like this in the vicinity of Bournemouth, or am I doomed to get weak? And also, how is the climbing community down there? I have done a fear bit of research on the internet, but hasn't been able to find out much... Looking forward to some positive answers(Hopefully:).

Hi,

Uninversity of Bournemouth have an indoor wall and there's one at the QE leisure centre in Wimborne:

http://www.qe-leisure-centre.co.uk/edge/default.htm
http://www.bournemouth.ac.uk/sports/facilities/hot_rocks_climbing_wall.html

Neither are much cop for routes, but fine for bouldering.

If you want good routes then Calshot is the closest dedicated climbing centre.
