Thor's Cave tomorrow?
July 22, 2006, 09:52:40 pm
Going down to Thor's Cave tomorrow to check out Bonjoy's handywork. Short notice, I know, but anyone care to join us? Three of us so far, a fourth person would be good.

Well, just got back and had a great time. If you like steep climbing then you should go. It's the Volx of the Peak, and there is no higher praise than that! Many thanks, Bonjoy, nice work there.

Glad you liked. What did you get on?
Was meant to be going there myself yesterday, but had a change of mind after all the rain as I thought it might be damp with condensation. I take it I was wrong.

Embarrassing admission coming up. Thought I'd get Midgard Serpent done then spend the rest of the day working something harder. Nope, got shut down by Midgard. Haven't done any climbing like that for a long time and felt very out of practice. By the time I'd worked out a good sequence of kneebars and footlocks I was too tired to redpoint it. Keen to go back and finish it off and try something else. I love climbing upside down.

Midgard was bone dry and didn't notice much dampness anywhere else in the cave.

You shouldn't feel excessively embarrassed, it has shut down quite a few. I don't think anyone has managed to flash/onsight it yet. Might even be 7b+, what do you think?

I'm an atrocious grader. 7b / 7b+ sounds about right.

Looks like I might be able to get out either Wednesday or Friday afternoon this week and I'm keen for round 2. You or anyone else fancy it? I have transport, a rope and a sequence.

Unfortunately i'll be stuck in work both days. It might be worth giving Rhys a call or Paul B a PM, they're both free in the week at the mo and keen to get out.

I'm out today (Cheedale from 2ish onwards) and Thursday (Kilnsey), can't do Wed or Friday, which is a pity as Thor's cave does look and sound very inviting.

Went for a wander on Saturday and it was bone dry, having looked at the routes from the ground I can't see why anyone wouldn't go and climb there! Looks awesome, good work on the bolting Bonjoy.
