Ah yes, in which case my advice would be - stop fannying around trying to find an efficient sequence, just fuckin bear down. I take no responsibility for any injuries resultant.

Can't remember specifics (even though I took the pic), but seems to be some sort of bicycle footwork going on here from Doylo:

As for 'where does pit of hell go?' It was originally done as an extended start to Rock Atrocity (and to be fair to CJD, the ground level was much higher back then). It briefly became fashionable in its own right, and was used as a start to a big link up onto the left wall by Gaz Parry. It then fell out of favour when Mark Katz climbed the more logical In Hell start. Danny Cattell then sorted it all out by linking In Hell onto the left wall of the cave.

Resurrecting an old thread. again. I thought 'In Hell' was a sit down start into Rockatrocity, weighing in at 8a for the whole thing. I presume from the above quote, that I'm somewhat wide of the mark. What's the grade for the whole thing? (i.e. In Hell into Rockatrocity). Anybody got any video footage of the start?
Thanks.

Joe le sage this is a complicated subject. In Hell is Rockatrocity from the slot jug at the back, Grade 8a+. Now the original sequence is pretty hard just to get to the jug on the start of RA, 8aish into 7c with a shit rest. Not an easy 8a+ in my book. Now there are two more (easier) sequences on the start. Petes way and my way. Now mine and Petes way involve easier moves but perhaps are a few moves longer than the original. Beasts like Liam and Danny would probably still opt for the original sequence cos its quick and simple (although very powerful). As for the grade of In Hell now probably soft 8a+ in my book, too pumpy for 8a. If you do the original beta your climbing an eliminate (albeit a good one), however if you use the new beta you run the risk of people throwing tomatoes at you while your climbing, and saying your not a real man. Personally i don't care, i have done Pit of Hell (on to this in a minute) and In Hell is still much more pumpy hence 8a+.
The original low start to RA is a Davies problem called Pit of Hell, this involves a 7b+ sequence to RA and the grade is 8a (sounds more doable eh!). This is not really in the guides/ lists because A: it has been superseded and B: because it involves a contrived starting hand position (RH: side pull, LH: crimp with thumb right next to it). Despite this it is very good and worth doing, you do get an 8a tick. OK theres some footage of Danny doing the start to In Hell here (original seq), (he's doing In Life but they share the same start)

Thanks Chris Doyle! Will my arms grow like yours if I come over regularly and try my hardest? I'm psyched.

Me again! Nice vid - thanks. Is 'Pit of Hell' a shorter version of 'In Hell'? i.e. If I do 'Pit of Hell', is it then a question of adding some more starting moves to do 'In Hell'? I like this idea, as i'm not sure i'm capable of 8a+, and it'll be a lot of driving for sore arms and no tick...

p.s. are there are any extensions to Lou Ferrino that bring it up to 8a? not that i'm trying to find an 8a to try or anything...

Apparently if you eliminate the three finger pocket Lou Ferrino and continue along the ramp instead of rocking up on your heal to the pocket this gets 8a!

mmmm, sounds a bit similar/contrived to be worth driving over for...

This is not just aimed at you JohnM, but can we all remember it's HEEL. H.E.E.L. HEEL. heelheelheelheelheelheel, (that's the bit below the ankle). Heal (h.e.a.l.) is what you do when you get better.

I doubt your arms will grow like mine Joe, they are the product of much beam crushing. Sounds like Pit of Hell 8a is the one for you, shorter and much much easier than in hell, or cave life if you can find someone to give you the knowledge  ;)
