In the past I've noticed that there are quite a few mushroom afficionados on here.

Would you consider growing your is it the thrill of the hunt that you keeps you rifling through hedges?

I got a friend one of the homegrow mushroom kits, they don't forage but are keen gardeners.  The yield wasn't great apparently.

Personally I like wandering through the woods seeing what I can find, its nice being outdoors and fun trying to identify what you do find.

If you're going to grow 'shrooms at home there are far wiser choices to be made, see the Cyanescens section here for example

I've known a few people try the kit mushroom approach, my dad's attempt failed to yield anything, and the guys I knew who tried it at uni grew the wrong sort of mushroom. Apparently they were edible but didn't have the desired effect...

We were given a kit early in the simmer, and followed instructions given, and I think we got a dozen or so max. Have been kindly given another kit (because we were too polite to say it was a waste of time last time), so be interesting to see if yield is any better in cooler weather.

They werent shit-take though, just ordinarly ones. Be keen to see how you get on.
