Bouldering El Chorro area
March 22, 2009, 09:21:19 pm
Could anybody advise me whether there's any bouldering close by car/at El Chorro?
I'm going out cragging with a friend who lives there but who now tells me cannot climb as many days as planned leaving me with an odd day spare. :(
There'll be no boulderin g mat so not planning to risk my neck on the starts of routes nr Poema Roca etc.
Can anyone think of anything better?
Many thanks
Jon

On the opposite side of the road facing the power station(?) at the gorge entrance there's a gully with a couple of conglomerate boulders with a circuit (not very good).

You could easily get lost wandering around El Torcal (?sp) for a few hours, no doubt tons of problems, although I doubt they're documented (and even if they were, you'd need a GPS guide to get you to them its such a fucking maze!)

Assume you mean http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Torcal. Always wanted to go there, be amazing just for a wander.

Yep, thats the one, we tried to do some climbs in there, but we only had an old Cicerrone guide by Chris Craggs and nothing made sense at all, just climbed what looked like good lines within our grade (and still got spanked  :P).

Great place though, no doubt very easy to get lost.

Why not wander up to the Campsite/Finca/the Olive Branch/Hotel and look for another billy no-mates climbing partner.. ?  Probably better than the bouldering....

Thanks for all the answers.
Serpico, yes, agreed, but looks like a measure of last resort. Walkable from Alora tho if I can't borrow the car...
Falling Down: yep, had thought of this but it might not be successful so looking for plan B/C/D etc
Roberto, thanks for the help, good info
 :)

Try Martin Haywood from UKC. He was at The Olive Tree for a long spell when I was out there the other week...
