Knackered Laptop?
November 05, 2008, 10:08:49 am
My laptop appears to be broken.
I had a slight issue last week where my power cable split and didn't work, so I used a friends.
Then, trying to use the laptop and aforementioned power cable, the battery charging/AC power light won't come on and when i press the 'on' button on the laptop, the 'on' light comes on for about 5 seconds then goes off and thats it.
It doesn't sound like the HD is spinning during the time the light on, so; knackered battery/wrong charger or fucked hard drive?
Any advice? I probably ought to take it somewhere to be looked at...

knackered battery/wrong charger

Sounds like it. even if the hard drive was fucked it would still turn on.

Whats the volatge/amps on the laptop (or its old power adapter) compared to the new one that you've been using?

May be that you've fried your motherboard with too much power if they aren't the same, which is why its a bad idea to use power adapters not designed for your own laptop.

I did check that the replacement charger wasn't liable to fry anything. As far as I remember it was lower voltage and current than the orginal one.
