I've always got the impression that, at least in Font, problems are graded assuming that you've found the "knack". In font this means that "tricky" problems, like Berezina, can feel tough until they're fully dialled, whereas straighforward problems like Alta, for example, are a piece of piss for the visiting climber.

This effect is often explained by suggesting the french are weak, but no self respecting climber could subscribe to that theory these days, could they?

Theres often confusion between being weak, and climbing like a ponce.

The french are generally only guilty of one of the above.
