Branson, Switzerland
January 26, 2008, 10:27:46 pm
Has anyone been to this small but historically important area? I have the blocheart guide which give some info on how to get there and I am guessing the boulders are obvious when you get there (since it says "boulders are next to the parking area"). If anyone has been, is there somewhere to say nearby, or is it alright to camp?

From what I can find on the internet, here is a video showing the main block;

Nah, he got it from the 14th Earl of Sandwich, who adores a slice of swiss granite in his sarnies . . .

Simply because no one else seems to be showing any love for this magnificently historical piece of rock, here is la danse de balrogs. This was the worlds first 8B, ascended by Fred Nicole.

When was it done? I thought the first was Slapshot in the 70s. - just going off the planetfear records page. http://www.planetfear.com/article_detail.asp?a_id=326

Has Slapshot had a second ascent and grade confirmed? I know Trice was reckoned to be 8b by locals but went down to around 8a when it was repeated by a few people last year. Also, I read somewhere that there was some doubt by locals that these problems had actually been climbed although I reckon Jim Holloway must have done them.

Interesting how Hubble predates Danse and would surely have been the first 8b had it not been for a harness and rope.

Keith, I want those trainers in shot really bad. My most treasured pair of Zx's are now but mere threads of burnt cotton (due to a fire incident) clinging to my feet. La danse de Balrog looks immense, nice.

My most treasured pair of Zx's are now but mere lumps of melted plastic (due to me insisting on drying them very close to the woodfire, despite the warnings of roughly ten people who could see that the trainers would combust if left that close to the flames for so long).

What's wrong with the replacements that I bought you for your birthday?  Too cool for you eh?

Actually I saw the trainers in the photo and thought you'd be jealous.

Uncle's just a cocktease.

The trainer's you bought me are great but can only be worn in warm, dry weather. I'm saving them for summer in Swiss and will wear them out then.

By pure chance, look what one of the images came up as on my ZX image search; a bizzare photo of some burning ZX's. Sneakers so hot they spontaneously combust. 8)

The tenner I spent on your hideous trainees could have been spent on chalk, but don't worry I'm not offended... honestly, I've just got a bit of grit in my eye...   :'(
