seepage free peak limestone!!
October 16, 2007, 01:59:59 pm
any 'worthwhile' routes to be done from now on?? Nobody say Horseshoe Quarry...
I dont' have the time to be up and down to Kilnsey and Malham every spare minute, so if there is something I can use to get fit then all the better.

What about 666 on Beeston Tor? any others?

Any constructive suggestions gratefully considered

Isn't there a problem with ivy covering 666. There are a couple of newish sport routes up there as well as there are at Stoney whihc would, I presume, stay dry.

Whilst we are on a Peak lime tip does anyone know anything about these routes, some of them get 3 stars

WCJ Cornice was suufering from condensation at the weekend but not yet seeping.

For longer term generally seepage free hardish Sport options:

High Tor - High Torquing, Wil E Coyote, Mad Max (sporty)
Stoney - Garage Buttress - various - Zippys new route is never wet apparently
Turkey Dip Rocks - recently rebolted and worth investigation
Rubicon + Raven Tor obviously
WCJ - Inch Test + other obscurata
Lots of new routes at Beeston courtesy of Zips
Dovedale - Steve Macs route left of Eye of the Tiger
Chee Dale - Sirplum Buttress - Sloe Gin + the big roof that Christian freed

Turkey Dip Rocks.

Never been there but I remember in a mag years ago, people like Chris Plant and Zippy climbing there. In the pic it was a blocky cave. Someone was trying one of the routes for a FA, and not getting it done, so someone tried it, leaving a note to the effect if they didn't get it done soon they were going to lose out on the FA. The advice on the note was Step on It.

Also the report mentioned that that one-time hard nut legend of scottish climbing, Spider MacKenzie went there and hated the place so much he did all the routes so he would never have to go back.

Was wondering which article that was, Grimer, until the bit about Spider.  Yes, I remember that line... ;)

Turkey Dip is an impressive piece of esoterica - when Zippy first took me there, I couldn't imagine how he ever found it.

Don't imagine it will be dry again this year, but if we ever have a dry spring, it would be a good place to go before the leaves appear.

If you haven't been there, the twin cracks of Step on It, and The Land that Time Forgot will blow you away - there's nothing like them in the Peak, despite their diminutive height.  And they are just as good as they look.

Whole place was re-bolted and a bunch of new hard routes done by Jon Clark this Summer.

Fucking hell, Spider MacKenzie. That's a blast from the past. I remember he was trying a route at Rubicon once while we were bouldering there. His Mrs was belaying him and dropped him a bit further than he'd expected. "Sorry Spider" she said, "Ya fuckin wull be ya bitch" was the muttered reply...........

Neil i wouldn't right Turkey Dip off just yet, i haven't been since early sept but i would be willing to bet it is still bone dry!  Don't forget i was doing all the work at the crag in July when it was pissing it down for a month & i was still climbing there!

Anyway you should all go and repeat the two cracks cos they are absolutely brilliant climbs, and all now have spanking new bolts!   :great:
