Larger Gites in Font
August 29, 2007, 02:38:49 pm
I've searched through all the previous similar posts but they mainly talk about smaller gites for 4-6 people.

Can anyone recommend a larger gite, for about 10 people?  My lack of French is meaning I'm struggling even if I do manage to get onto the right sites  :boohoo:

Would be good to hear from someone who'd actually stayed in a larger gite rather than just picking one randomly from a site.

Any help / suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Ask catt off UKC, he found us a double gite that slept 10-12 of us in two adjacent gites. Was well pimp, converted farmhouse style, sort of quaint and clean and modern at the same time, open fires, good kitchens... Was down in the south west somewhere in a little village (Burcy?). Catt will know all the details.

we used to have one that was nice and slept 9 (assuming you like double beds) or 10 if someone wanted to sleep in a wicker basket (dutch!). its got 3 bathrooms, a conservatory and a BBQ out back, grass, boules, table tennis etc. Its also got a crepe pan. its in Vernou-la-Celle-sur-Seine, i.e. out the back of font through samoreau. not the most central location but not too bad. its good in that whichever crag you're going you always drive past a supermarket or 2 every day and umpteen good patiseries every morning.

Do you have a web link or anything I can have a look at, or does the 'used to' suggest it's not avaliable anymore?   Also might need to see how the boys feel about sharing double beds...

I have stayed in a ten person gite in Genevraye, which was OK but they ripped us off with the cleaning, and when we refused to pay the town mayor and police were called.

I have also stayed in a very good gite in St Martin en Biere, which is actually two gites that, if you hire them both, they open a big joining dining room, and they face onto a nice courtyard. The guy who runs this is very friendly (free bottles of wine, fruit etc. and honest).

But the piece de resistance is a 14 person gite just outside Milly with onsite table tennis, boules, orchard, pool (billiards not swimming) and fishing run by a very nice honest guy. Unfortunately I can't remeber exactly where this is, but someone else probably will.

"used to" implies i haven't been to font in a big group for 2 years. if you go on the gites de france website for that departement (seine et marne) and do it search it should come up.

A group of us used this gite in February. It's worth it just to witness the size of the wicker basket that dutch (who is a big boy) spent a week sleeping in.

Think you mean this one http://www.gites-de-france-essonne.com/uk/fiches/gite/gite.asp?id=172.

Haven't stayed there but have used a couple of other gites in the Essonne region (which covers area north of Milly) and generally seem found then to be up a good standard (dishwashers and such like ) - good area for accessing quite of lot of the climbing (Trois Pignons and Franchard in particular) and missed by many people who just search Seine et Marne.

we stayed here in may and are returning in october.  the accomodation is good, breakfasts great, and the host steff is spot on.  walking distance from elephant.

it's really a gite and a guest house.  the gite can take upto 6 (two bedrooms and a sofa bed) and the guest house has three rooms taking up to a total of 11, though they can be taken individually..  in october we've hired the gite and the whole guest house on a b&b basis for our party of 12.

contact steff, leclosdutertre@wanadoo.fr

it's also on the gites du france website.

I think a group of us stayed in this a few years ago and the guy ripped us off on the cleaning and electricity. So watch out and leave some time at the end for negotiations.

We stayed here christmas a couple of years ago - don't remember any probs at the end, though we did have half girls...

Seems the trend with the owners is you never can tell how they'll behave. I guess they're french after all, and probably pissed half the time.

That's the one. It's disadvantage is that it costs a fair bit more than many other gites, so if your on a budget and only interested in climbing till dark then boshing tuna pasta, or if you don't want to hear tales of Scouse slipping off to the woods, in the dark, in search of an oily whopper, then it might not be the best option.

Can second the above gite in Masse, had it for a week for my stag do back in June and it was fantastic. Decent supermarket 5mins walk away, next to the train station, dishwasher and all the extensive gameage mentioned above

+ you can slack line over the river in the garden if that rocks your boat (excuse the pun)
