TomTom Navigator Problems
July 26, 2007, 06:49:06 pm
Has anyone else had problems with tomtom navigator freezing? Running it on a orange/prophet m600 with a 1GB card. If it looses satellites it seems to freeze pretty quickly (and I have to take the battery out to reset the device), the bluetooth gps reciever (a holux copy) still flashes like its connected to the phone and satellites? Any suggestions other than whipe it all?
Cheers,
Paul

I will bet you a tube of creatine carb tablets that I know what is wrong here - its your POI file. You either need to rebuild it (used to have a Perl script to do that) or delete it. To prove me right simply rename poi.dat to poi.benisagodofallthingsITrelated and try using tom tom. Crashing? nope, thought not. Mines a Pale rider.

if that works you can definately have a pint of palerider. Prefer moonshine myself but horses for course. Get wet last night by any chance?

I've got a similar set up to yours, sometimes it freezes on start up in which case I have to do a hard reset. But once running it's pretty stable. Does yours freeze in the same location (ie: same part of town)? as I had a problem where it would exit the program around the same street in Nice. I fixed this by disabling the POIs. I can still use favourites or POI files that I've added myself.

It seemed to be everytime I went over the snake pass but the other week I was driving up for Manchester to Kendal and it froze somewhere on the M6 (it is the m6?).....I haven't had time to try Dobbin's suggestion yet, i'll let you know if it works.

Try doing a fresh reinstall with latest version (I think its 6.03 or maybe 6.04 now?)
Thats what I do when anything ever goes wrong.
On a different note I will be releasing an updated bouldering POI very soon (I promise)

Could someone (Bubba?) assist me please?  Just for personal aesthetic reasons, I would to like see Jim's mighty green stars accompany such an authoritative response.

Is it possible?

This fixed the problem, the poi's all still work afterwards which I thought they wouldn't? Cheers.
