bouldering mats on Easyjet
June 27, 2007, 01:55:10 pm
Has anyone taken bouldering mat on easyjet flight? Looking at their web booking page there isnt a option for bouldering mat in the sports equipment luggage section page so was wondering what the score was.

Not had a bother, providing it's within weight limits. I normally wrap it in a couple of heavy duty garden refuse bags. having a magazine handy to show check-in staff what it is and what it's used for makes life a bit easier.

Can you remember if you got charged an extra 15 quid for taking the mat? On their website there is a sports equipment section on the booking form and you have to tell them what you're taking...

Ryan Air are shocking - I would never use them again with pads. 20 quid each way that was non-negotiable. The budget airline, I think not, a decent airline would have come out less when you totalled all the extras.

Jim is spot on when he says don't tell them it's sports equipment. Easyjet used to be fine but have turned into twats over the past couple of years. Last time I flew anywhere was with them last year and both ways to Font were a trauma; the return flight from Paris being particularly bad because they kept us waiting for ages as they decided whether or not we could put the pads on the plane and then whether or not we could put two pads and a rucksack in the hold (as baggage for two people).
We're not going to fly to Font again which is great because now we drive and go for much longer.
My stupidest experience was returning to the UK late one night from Font. The plain clothes police fellas were studying us five blokes (and pads) quite carefully and as we came through they asked us to step to the side. The ringleader of the cops then said in a very friendly manner that they'd been trying to guess what our crashpads were used for and could we explain it to them. I was a twat as ever and whispered to the cops that I could tell them what they were but that I'd have to kill them afterwards.
Let's just say that the officers were not that receptive to my "humour" and that my mates had to make apologies for me and drag me swiftly to the waiting getaway car.
