The right and the wrong
November 12, 2007, 12:55:35 pm
Ok, since there seems to be an obvious split between road bikes and mountain bikes, and there exists the same kind of animosity between skiiers and snowboarders, it got me to thinking which combination of skiing or snowboard and road or mtb your average ukb poster would be.

Poll away.

After 17 years of snowboarding (with a couple of days rest in between), I had a go at skiing last year. To my surprise, it was easy to pick up, loads of fun and much more comfortable than boarding (on the piste, lifts etc. - boots sucked for walking about in). It made me think about getting around to having a go at MTBing...  :-\

SB & MTB for me, although will never forsake skiing completely as ski touring as the only really viable option when theres snow in Scotland.

Staying upright without effort when stopped - no sitting or kneeling when waiting for others. Kind of felt that it was easier to see what all the other idiots were doing - probably to do with stright-on stance instead of boarding stance. It might all be to do with my fcuked back; sitting on chair lifts felt more comfortable and tbars and pomas were so comfortable compared to when boarding. Queues were easier to shufffle along in and there was no unclipping/reclipping of bindings. All minor stuff, but I had expected the rigid boots and two skis to feel much worse.
Snowboarding will still be my choice whenever there is soft snow about, but its nice to have found the fun in skiing on rock hard piste.

I should point out at this stage that I can ski reasonably well - but wtf are those sticks for?

I didn't get as far as using those stick things, just ended up carrying them from the house to the lifts and leaving them there all day.
I've just remembered how easy it was to carve on skis - I kept giggling at how easy it was and making spitfire noises with my arms out as per 6 year olds in the playground. The French looked confused

Initiating turns, esp on steep moguls?
Assisting you when "skating" on flat ground?
Planting between skis of anyone trying to queue "actively"?
Used for many things when ski touring.
