Finally - with the advent of the new intel powered Macs, you can now run WinXp on something that doesnt look like just another black box

WinXp on  Mac

Anyone out there with a spare intel Mac who can give it a go?

But why bother?

OS X and XP offer a pretty similar user experience anyway, don't they?

Not much point in that, what we wanna know is when OSX is going to run on a PC. Bubba have you used OSX recently? The recent version (Tiger/10.4) is seriously growing on me.

I have no idea why you would want to do it either - other than Macs look alot better than you average PC. The article on BBC was citing that gamers etc with Macs may want to as the PC game selection is much greater on the PC

Not that I have an opinion on that as I dont own any games

If they brought out a version of VS2005 than ran on a Mac, Id happily switch

No, not very recently - thing is I find XP fine for my needs, and really Macs are no use to me...main reasons being availabilty of free software and their rather steep purchase price. Also, they do look nice but I'm not really bothered about how my computer looks.

I can't see the point of running OSX on a PC either.

What will OSX allow me to do that WinXP doesn't? Errrm....nothing!

I suppose these things are a good exercise in geekdom, but how much use are they in the real world?

Well it certainly won't let me run a vast amount of freely available astronomical data processing tools, compile my own scientific code using free and reliable compilers, run a grid of very cheap number-crunching machines for vast numerical calculations using Apple's Xgrid, play with Imovie on my work desktop, process my files and data using the vastly powerful linux shell whilst tweaking my photos in photoshop, and allow trouble-free installation of hardware combined with good virus protection,  and it certainly doesn't let me do it all at a fraction of the cost.

Oh no, wait a minute....

The attraction of running OS X on PCs is that OS X combines the best features of linux with the best features of Windows, and it allows us to do it without paying Apples high prices for mac machines. For people like me who work in a linux-based world it's a very exciting and useful development, both in terms of work and play.....
