Soft touches for Left handers...
January 17, 2006, 02:12:25 am
Perhaps this is a load of nonsense, but...

I was trying Isla De Enchanta. I mean, I was trying it, but of course there were some moves that were a little beyond me. That left hand pinch for instance, that's mean, that is. It is. But I was thinking, you know how if you squeeze one of those grip things we were all talking about/scorning recently, it's much easier with your right hand than your left... Well are there problems that left handers find miles easier just because there's a funny shaped hold that you have to squeeze the same way you do the squeeze machine? Well are there? Or are the muscles for climbing evened out by climbing?

Left handers, own up! You have hid amongst us for too long. We, The People, demand to know about your cheating evil voodoo...

Uhhm, I'm right-handed but stronger in my left hand, on all kinds of holds: pinches, crimps, slopers, whatever. (According to my enemies this is because excessive wanking gives Ms. Right  no chance to recuperate between sessions...).

Most non-beginners, climbers that is, are about as strong in their left and right hand, non?

My climbing gym has a thingy to measure pinch strenght. I'm about 5% stronger in my left hand.

I'm a lefty but no noticable difference in strength between left and right. I can hold on for longer with my right, but that's only because I'm used to hanging on with my right hand and fiddling in nuts, as my left is way more dextrous.

since i mangled up my left arm I'm definately mega right-dominant. I've developed loads of elbow pain in the right arm recently, think it's my body overcompensating for the weakness of the other arm.

Back on topic, soft touches for lefties?

I'd go for any dyno where you hit the top with your left (something I now have serious trouble committing to), so Buckstone dyno and Deliverance for starters...

no wonder you have serious trouble if you go for the buckstone with your left
most people have one arm stronger etc than the other, it's just a bit more noticeable in climbing, but nowhere near as much as in weights. it is also worth noting that a brickie will prob be much stronger than most people at pinching things, nearly on a par with a scouser

yes ttt you will have seen a pic of dave doing it left handed. this is not the norm since he is 6 ft 12. was going to put this on first post but thought what the hell.

paul, the edge for malcs one-armer is not good. small crimp, it's not even good for doing moves off. if you've got womens fingers then it will be an ok hold
