Climbing around Leeds
January 09, 2006, 05:27:59 pm
Hi - I'm thinking of going bouldering on the Yorkshire Grit for the last weekend of January. I will be travelling by public transport and staying in Leeds. CAn anyone suggest easy places to get to and cheep places to stay.
Cheers

edit: sorry, that's a terrible thread.
In a word, Caley. Possibly the best single bouldering venue in the uk when it is dry, and the closest crag to (and a short bus ride from) leeds.
Unfortunately it faces north and is often green,, in which case you'll have to get to almscliffe, which is obvious from caley but not easily reached...

Ilkley can also be reached with a slightly longer stint on the x84 or by train. If you go by bus get off in Ben Rhyding for an easier walk in.
I agree with JB tho - if its not green and wet then Caley every time
Those are basically your options tho.

Other than the 'cliff of course. She is a cruel, but giving mistress.

At that time of year, it's your best bet for dry rock.
