yo chris, when me and dobbin went we stayed in a gite in the next town over, about 5 mins drive away. He will have the details; PM him, he should reply.

Re. problems to try:

les grotte soupirs 7c+ (a cracking problem but very dynamic)
la pioche 7b+ (the right hand version of l'apelle-hard 8a)
la nave va 7c+ (big bald arete, looks good but didn't do this one)
hannibal lector 7c (steep overhung wall hidden in a cave behing the jungle area)
la boullette s/s 7b+/7c (the left hand finish to la boule with the sitter)
stinky pete 7b (highball arete)

There is a cool 7c highball arete i tried but never did, if you look in the guide its to the left of 'harry spotter' and is awesome; dont do what i did and attempt it with one pad!

check out chironico too and maybe PM CJD as hes just been and seems to know it better than me.

but try:

la soucoupe left hand 7c+ (an awesome problem that we believed to be la soucoupe)
les doigts vert 7c+/8a (didnt try this, but dobbin pissed it; crimpy so you'll like it  )
sloper attacke 7b (as it says)

when are you going, as were thinking of going again.......apparently?

My listening devices have picked up on conversations regarding Cresciano from one of the fearless wads I stalk. I plan to stow away in a pad and continue my watch out in Cresciano either late January or early Feb. Discussions over date are still pending.

Doylo, this year we stayed in a gite above Biasca about 10km from Cresciano (its a good road - short journey), this was booked via the splendid www.interhome.ch website. As our accomodation was rural to say the least we spent a considerable amount on wood to burn. Still, it was handy and reasonably priced.

Dont buy the guide from the restaurant in Cresciano village, head down to Bellinzona and get it from the tourist info office - its 10euro cheaper.

Its fcuking freezing dude! -6 some days!!! temp over night must have been considerably worse. The only people hard enough to camp in the car park this January were polish dudes who appeared to made from granite, woke up smoking rollies, burled up 8a blocs all day (still smoking) and were probably closing #3 to warm down! On another note, access to cresciano is a bit tricky and sleeping in the car park can't help to be honest.

speaking of burled polish dudes, well that way anyway, years ago in font i was staying on the free campsite. spent 3 wks there, it was absolutely freezing, the stand pipe was frozen every morning. when it eventually started to thaw these german guys had there kids showering under it. since i'm not the best at languages it took me a few days to figure out they weren't geordies

The Flan will be able to bask in the warming knowledge that he's saved himself a couple of euro - this should be more than enough to keep out the chill.

got back from cresciano ten day ago.

my opinion: sleeping in the car park is cheap, but the place is a real dump. horrible, really. i have a van and wouldnt sleep there, too fucking horrible and dirty.
i stayed in a cheap hotel in biasca, 90 francs for two people room plus huge breakfast. clean and funny. from cresciano to biasca, its the last hotel on the left before the roundabout. at night it becomes an illegal gambling house. no cheating.

then in biasca you can sleep in the lockers of the ice palace if there arent visiting hockey teams. ten francs, but its was busy when i was there. keep the secret.
