Old ropes wanted
October 17, 2016, 11:59:26 am
Hi, I'm after some old ropes to make some of these:
http://www.edelrid.de/en/rope-mat/
Has anyone in Sheffield got any they could donate?
Any condition is okay.
Thanks for any help. Si.

I have two 60m genesis half ropes (8.5mm) that I'd love to give you but I'm in Yorkshire. They're cluttering up the house and need to go but I can't bear to just put them in the bin when there may be a reuse option out there.
I don't suppose you'll be passing through on the way to Malham/Kilnsey any time soon?

Hmm, I doubt I'll be up there for some time.
I wonder what postage would be?
Thanks for replying.
Si.

I'm pretty sure I've got an 50m sports rope that is past its climb on date you can have.
Shall I drop it off somewhere ?

Si.

Looking at the Royal Mail website, it looks like postage would be a little more or a little less than £20, depending on what size of bundle I can get them packed down to.
If you're happy to pay that then I'm happy to post them down to you.

I'd go and ask at your local wall, you'd be amazed how much gets left behind (for long periods of time).

I've also seen people (I'm not condoning this) removing ropes from the 'Green Peak Gear' bins, some to make carpets, some for a new lead rope!

Do you know at what size you print the template out?

Galpinos: I made one last week. Printed the template without resizing it, and it took 6 sheets of A4. I used an old furry 11mm which was only 40m long. It just about went round 4 times. Finished it off with one round of an old static caving rope. Finished size is around 60cm wide. See image below with cat for scale.
