First time in Font!
October 27, 2014, 06:16:42 pm
Howdy everyone.

I'm off to Font on Friday, for the first time! I was wondering if there was any words of wisdom from the UKB collective? I.e I'm thinking down the lines of things to take with me that can't be sourced locally e.g. Yorkshire Tea bags. We are crushing down in a camper so have room for just about anything. I've stocked up on ibuprofen tablets and gel, going to get a new big bag of chalk and more tape etc, the usual climbing consumables for me anyway. Staying at Neil H's place if that makes any difference.

Super flipping psyched, climbing probably the best now in my whole life, and headed to the forest with some great company  :w00t: :clap2: :2thumbsup: :bounce:

Get Neil to sort you out a good plan for Saturday, come relaxed and rested, climb as much as possible...Sunday looks pretty iffy.

My advice would be to make sure you do a full circuit somewhere. Climbing hard probs is good but font is about the only place you can do the follow the dots and arrows thing. Which I love..

What erm, sam said.

First time I went, my mates laid siege to stuff and I didn't enjoy the four days there at all. Grades were variable (understatement when you can only climb low grade slabs), top outs 'different' and I felt like any technique I had was just not applicable in Font.
This time - I sorta followed the circuits on my own for the first few days and it was brilliant. Got a real feeling for the forest and what climbing there involves. Then got me some 6s in a couple of goes. I was so psyched. The orange circuit at Elephant is the biz... loads of traversing and you have to hop from boulder to boulder without touching the floor. At least I think you do. It was fun anyway!

Have a great time!

Check out forecasts and plan. Have a save your skin strategy - don't thrash away trying to slap your way up something especially if it's at all warm; you will end up with skinless tips in no time. Know when to walk away! Also give your feet a break; take your climbing shoes off whenever you get a chance, and stop to take breath every now and then.

Bonjour mikey, we are in the forest now with uncle wormaneggar. Good conditions though a little warm at the mo.

Expect to take a couple of days getting used to the rock and what you can stand on as this will help you later when on the 8a's!!
